Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 16, 2014 -- Twenty student teams have been selected as regional first-place winners in the 12th annual eCYBERMISSION competition—one of several science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiatives offered by the Army Education Outreach Program (AEOP)—created to cultivate student interest in STEM by encouraging sixth through ninth graders to develop solutions to real-world challenges in their local communities. The teams will advance to the competition’s National Judging and Educational Event taking place on June 19th at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Va. At the event, students will present their projects to a panel of judges and a national winning team from each grade level will be chosen.
The national winning teams, who will be announced at the eCYBERMISSION National Awards Luncheon on Friday, June 20th, were chosen from a select group of 20 finalist teams, which in turn were selected from more than 4,400 teams that entered the free competition this year. Since the program’s inception in 2002, eCYBERMISSION has awarded state, regional and national competition winners with more than $8 million in U.S. Savings Bonds.
