England Van Lines Debuts New Software to Help Better Estimate Moving Costs
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2014 -- England Van Lines, a premier moving company offering residential and commercial relocation services for local, long distance and international moving, has recently debuted a new software designed to better estimate moving costs. The proprietary software aims to provide potential customers with more accurate estimates on what their move will cost. The common moving industry standard to estimate the costs of any relocation is usually based on a single metric. For residential moving projects, that metric is the number of bedrooms occupied by furniture and other cumbersome household items at the point of origin. For commercial moving projects, the metric is the square footage of the office that needs to be moved. Estimates based on these single metrics can vary widely, depending on a number of additional factors that determine the moving cost. As a result, customers often have to deal with an unpleasant surprise of paying more for the move once the job is completed, thus making their whole experience less than satisfactory.
England Van Lines than six months to design, beta test, and launch, uses a proprietary set of algorithms that take into the account a number of metrics related to the details and peculiarities of the move. Such relevant factors as the number of household members and the house square footage make up the algorithm calculations for the residential moves, and the number of office workers and type of business that’s moving, factor into the algorithm for commercial moves. “We approached the design of this software as a scientific endeavor,” says the CEO of England Van Lines, William Alexander. “Our programmers worked with our movers who move households and businesses every day in order to get a better feel for the anatomy of a move. It was a great collaboration of the front and back offices of our company. And, our testing shows that we now offer better estimates of moving costs to our customers.”
The results so far have been encouraging. A little over a month into the operation, the software has allowed England Van Lines to provide more accurate moving estimates to hundreds of clients. A few customers, unaccustomed to being questioned about the details of their move, were reluctant to answer more questions than they had expected during the initial call. However, once told that the answers they provide help with better estimating their moving costs, the customers don’t appear to mind additional queries. “We have had very little resistance during the upfront information intake,” said Tanning. “But the real benefits to our customers and us comes at the end of the moving process, especially when it comes to cross country relocation. Customers are happier because their expenses reflect the estimates they receive before they start the move, and we are happier because we can deliver not only an impeccable service but a much more accurate moving cost estimate ahead of time.”
