EnviroForensics Shares Wisconsin Dry Cleaners' Letters Highlighting Concerns for Property Values and Costs of Environmental Cleanups
Waukesha, WI (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- It often takes several years to remove pollution beneath Wisconsin dry cleaning plants -- and find resources to pay for it. EnviroForensics, a nationally-recognized environmental engineering firm located in Waukesha, recently released letters from the owners of several Wisconsin dry cleaners that highlight their concerns for property values and complexity of the job.
Unfortunately for many dry cleaners, the manner in which shirts and garments were dry cleaned in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s led to the release of solvents now classified as pollutants into the soil and groundwater, posing a risk to drinking water and the release of vapors into nearby buildings.
EnviroForensics has begun cleaning up pollution under many of Wisconsin’s oldest and most distinguished dry cleaning establishments in cities and rural communities across Wisconsin. In each case, EnviroForensics worked with their sister company, PolicyFind, to locate the dry cleaners old general liability insurance policies to pay for the expensive environmental investigations and cleanups.
PolicyFind locates old insurance policies that may help business owners pay for extensive pollution abatement and control, while EnviroForensics works with attorneys, regulatory agency officials and the insurance company to go through all the steps necessary to remediate the contamination and protect human health and the environment.
The owners of several leading dry cleaners wrote letters to EnviroForensics in which they worry about the long-term effects of pollution and express their appreciation for the company’s work.
Dan Martino, Sr., owner of Martino’s Master Dry Cleaners, hired EnviroForensics to locate and clean up pollution at three Martino’s sites. He writes: “Remediating chlorinated solvents in soil and ground water is a long process, but I look forward to the value of my business being restored to fair market value.”
Klinke Cleaners co-owner Steve Klinke says EnviroForensics was called in after his company realized that the scope of initial pollution removal work under its original plant was greater than previously thought.
Four years after bringing in EnviroForensics, Klinke wrote: “We are grateful to have EnviroForensics on our team. We encourage our friends and peers to talk to the team at EnviroForensics. They truly understand the insurance angle and the science, and we couldn’t be more relieved.”
Shirley Carlson, who owns Shorewood Queensway Dry Cleaner in Milwaukee writes in her letter: “It was an unsettling experience to find out that the business I counted on as an asset was viewed as worthless because of the environmental impact and the likely cleanup costs.”
Working with EnviroForensics relieved Carlson’s worries. “My friends at EnviroForensics have taken care of everything for me, including working with the attorneys on my project, the WDNR (Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources), my next door neighbors and the insurance companies. And the best part is that it has cost me very little out of pocket.”
Martino, Klinke and Carlson wrote their letters to EnviroForensics in November, 2012.
