The group found that self-published e-books now account for 12% of the total number of new books, although this number rises to 20% in some genres, particularly crime, sci-fi, humor, fantasy and romance.
Their research also determined that heavy readers are more likely than average readers to purchase self-published books. 61% of people who buy self-published books tend to read daily, compared to just 37% of all book buyers.
As technology changes, more people are turning to e-reading devices like the Amazon Kindle, rather than relying on print publications. The availability of such devices has caused the popularity of e-reading to soar over the last few years, explained a team member from eReflect.
