ESFI Helps Reduce Fire Hazards During Fire Prevention Week 2015
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) October 01, 2015 -- As part of its annual effort to increase public awareness and encourage a proactive approach to fire safety, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has joined the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in promoting Fire Prevention Week 2015, taking place October 4-10, 2015.
According to NFPA, three of every five home fire deaths occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or none that functioned properly. The theme of NFPA’s campaign, “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep,” aims to raise awareness about the life-saving potential of properly functioning smoke alarms. ESFI’s Fire Prevention Week resources will emphasize the importance of smoke alarms while also raising awareness about other fire prevention tips that could prevent fire and save lives.
“While smoke alarms provide life-saving protection in the event of a fire, there are many proactive measures that can be taken to stop fires before they can start,” said Brett Brenner, President of ESFI. “Installing arc fault circuit interrupters, which provide advanced fire protection, and taking simple safety precautions, such as not overloading electrical outlets, can help reduce the likelihood of a fire occurring in the home.”
To commemorate Fire Prevention Week, ESFI has created an infographic, “Prevent Fires, Protect the Home” to provide simple home safety tips to reduce the risk of a home fire. An interactive version can be found on ESFI's website. In addition to resources that outline the appropriate location and maintenance of smoke alarms, ESFI also offers a variety of fire safety information for all audiences. This includes a library of resources devoted to arc fault circuit interrupters, which are devices that could prevent an estimated 50 percent of the home fires that occur every year.
