Eskaton and PHCD Bring Experience, Innovation to New Senior Care Community in Burlingame
Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) July 20, 2017 -- Eskaton, a nonprofit community-based organization serving seniors in San Mateo County, has partnered with Peninsula Health Care District (PHCD) on a brand-new assisted living and memory care community in Burlingame called “The Trousdale.”
Owned by PHCD and managed by Eskaton, The Trousdale is now renting apartments for 2018 and offers residents 120 years of combined community service experience, paired with state-of-the-art technological advances that surpass traditional aging communities.
“We see assisted living and memory care as a fundamental element of the continuum of care,” said Cheryl Fama, CEO of PHCD. “We know that the No. 1 indicator for quality of life in the later years is socialization. Our vision is how we can work with the hospital, work with our community partners like Eskaton, to make sure what we provide at The Trousdale is going to fit.”
Located across the street from Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, The Trousdale is inspired by the surrounding Silicon Valley technology, and offers state-of-the-art innovation for seniors, including smart sensor LED lighting that adapts to the needs of the residents, an online portal for easy communication between family and residents and more that has been proven to increase the wellbeing of residents.
“We see shorter hospital stays, more procedures being done on an outpatient basis, more demand for choice,” noted Fama.
The Trousdale includes 101 beautifully designed assisted living apartments and 23 memory care residences for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Amenities include a wellness center, lifelong learning opportunities, and innovative and engaging activities such as yoga, acupuncture, art, and music programs.
“Eskaton is thrilled to bring our 50 years of experience in community services to The Trousdale to offer the best, most innovative care for our residents,” said Sylvia Chu, Executive Director of The Trousdale. “As a nonprofit organization like the Peninsula Health Care District, we share the same vision and dedication to providing quality and transformative care in our community.”
The community also includes several apartments at below market rate for income-qualified applicants. Additionally, this development will bring over 100 new well-paying employment positions to the region.
“The future of aging services looks nothing like it does today,” concluded Lawrence Cappell, Chair, Peninsula Health Care District Board of Directors. “The role of the caregiver is now being taken on by the adult children. Not only are we servicing the person who is getting older, but we’re also going to be servicing the person who is taking care of that person.”
