Estate Auction Group Features an Extremely Rare Case of Wine: “Marilyn Merlot”
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- During the 1980s, two types of collectibles—Marilyn Monroe images and vintage bottles of wine—converged into one highly coveted product, the “Marilyn Merlot” wine. Now collectors can bid on an early vintage case of Marilyn Merlot through Estate Auction Group’s online-only auction ending November 1 at 9 p.m. CST.
Marilyn Merlot was first created in 1986 when Napa Valley winemakers, tasting their own product, were reminded of the effervescence and sensuality of the legendary starlet Marilyn Monroe. After striking a deal with the Monroe Estate, winemakers began bottling their new product, featuring labels with images of Monroe on each bottle. Although the wine is still made today, the merlots from 1986 through 1992 are the most valuable and collectable.
Estate Auction Group is auctioning a case of 1990 Marilyn Merlot with labels depicting Monroe in one of her most famous poses, portraying the character Pola Debevoise in the 1953 film “How to Marry a Millionaire.” Though the wine is highly valuable when sold as individual bottles, this online-only wine auction features an entire case of Marilyn Merlot. “The opportunity for collectors to buy an entire case of this wine does not present itself every day,” said Estate Auction Group’s cofounder Zachary Franks. “Some collectors search a lifetime for such an exceptional offering.”
The case of 12 bottles of wine is being sold from the original owner, who purchased them in Napa Valley, California. All of the bottles are sealed and unopened and have been stored in a cool, dry environment for more than 30 years.
Estate Auction Group, which specializes in the sale of both real estate and personal property, is proud to offer such a priceless American artifact. “We are privileged to offer such a precious commodity,” said Franks. “This is a great opportunity for wine enthusiasts as well as fans that adore Marilyn Monroe and all that encompassed her outstanding legacy.”
