Event Registration Continues Now Through the End of February for ALOHA’s Vocab Bee Competition

Competition, in a controlled educational setting, can be a fun way to help children build self-confidence. Each center is holding the Vocab Bee in May/June.
Studies have shown that children have a natural tendency to compete, which starts around age 4-5. If this natural tendency is channeled, it can help kids develop useful skills and learn to handle pressure. For some children, events like spelling bees and sporting events are great fun, for others they can be stressful. In a supportive atmosphere, competition can help outgoing children channel their energies, and shyer children learn a set of skills that can help build their self-esteem. “ALOHA’s Vocab Bee is a creative, interactive way to help children become more confident in trying and using new words, and in growing their vocabulary,” said Mani Manickavelu, President and CEO of ALOHA Mind Math.
Public educational competitions such as spelling bees and math Olympiads also encourage children to participate in something larger than their own day to day progress. It can be fun for a group of children in an educational setting to participate and work towards a larger goal together. The positive reinforcement of a structured competition can help kids learn to focus their energies, and learn to prepare for a larger goal while having fun along the way. ALOHA learning centers are offering their Vocab Bee as a fun way to help kids in grades 1 - 5 expand their vocabularies, learn new words and build confidence. Sign-ups are open to the public, students do not need to be enrolled in an ALOHA program, and homeschoolers are welcome. The cost is $10 and each child receives a Vocab Bee practice book. Upon completing the Bee ALL children receive a t-shirt, certificate, and medal. Winners at each grade level receive trophies.

The Vocab Bee is held at all ALOHA centers in 18 states including: AL, AR, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, NC, MA, MI, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX and VA. Parents can contact a nearby center for the February registration dates and sign up 1st through 5th grade children for the event. The Vocab Bee events are open to the public and students do not have to be enrolled in an ALOHA class. Homeschoolers are welcome as well. Check with local centers for the date in May/June that their Vocab Bee is being held.
