According to the article published by The Telegraph, many people are up in arms following the recent event security debacle brought on by the lack of proper preparation for the Pope’s visit to Brazil.
The article says Pope Francis I embarked on his first international trip as Pope this week, and while the visit went off without much incident in the early stages, things quickly grew out of hand. The Pope had specifically requested that the bulletproof glass be removed from the “Popemobile.” Instead, the article says the Pope insisted that he ride in an open-top Jeep because he felt he should be a man of the people and directly interact with them.
During the parade, the article says thousands of cheering fans following the Pope eventually overwhelmed the Brazilian event security forces, causing them “to forcibly push people back.” At one point, the Pope’s vehicle had to come to a complete stop because of the amount of people lining the streets. Later on, the cheering turned into a mass anti-government protest outside of the state governor’s palace, only adding to the security risks.
