Excelsior College School of Nursing designated as a “Center of Excellence in Nursing Education” for the fourth consecutive time
Albany, New York (PRWEB) August 02, 2016 -- Following a rigorous peer-review process, Excelsior College’s School of Nursing has been designated as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing for the fourth consecutive time. The designation, which recognizes Excelsior for “Creating Environments That Enhance Student Learning and Professional Development” extends until 2021.
“The link between nursing education level and patient outcomes has become increasingly clear in recent years, driving demand for better educated nurses. Excelsior’s unique model is helping to meet that demand by providing a quality pathway for non-traditional students,” said Mary Lee Pollard, PhD, RN, CNE, the dean of the School of Nursing. “This designation serves as further validation of our model and the ability of our staff and faculty to provide a quality education to nurses across the professional continuum.”
In the official announcement, National League for Nursing CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, said, “Centers of Excellence raise the bar for all nursing programs by serving as role models of visionary leadership and inclusive excellence that nurture the next generation of nurses.”
More than 17,000 of Excelsior’s 38,000 students are enrolled within the College’s School of Nursing, pursuing degrees at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s level. Its associate degree competency-based education program is designed to serve individuals with experience in clinically oriented health care disciplines, such as licensed practical or vocational nurses. The College’s bachelor’s and master’s degree programs serve registered nurses seeking an advanced education and a credential increasingly in demand across the health care fields. Many of Excelsior’s master’s program students pursue careers as nurse educators following graduation.
Currently, 48 institutions hold the Center of Excellence designation, which is designed to recognize schools of nursing, schools within a system, and health care organizations that have achieved a level of excellence in a specified area. According to NLN, "Through public recognition and distinction, the program acknowledges the outstanding innovations, commitment, and sustainability of excellence these organizations convey."
The associate, bachelor's, and master's degree programs in nursing at Excelsior College are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The ACEN is a specialized accrediting agency for nursing recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
The newly designated Centers of Excellence schools will be formally recognized at the NLN Education Summit Awards Convocation, which will take place in Orlando, Florida on Friday, September 23 at 5 pm.
