Expansion in Washington County Pennsylvania is Drawing Attention
MCDONALD, Pa. (PRWEB) October 23, 2017 -- According to Assistant Superintendent Scott Chambers, officials started planning for new construction, renovations and expansion of existing facilities after a demographic study performed in 2013 forecast a growing population in the district.“In our own discussions, we (considered) our low (school) taxes, a great school district, the development of Southpointe and improvements to Cecil and North Strabane Township infrastructures, resulting in ability to build in undeveloped areas,” he said.
The areas first project is complete! Muse Elementary School underwent a $31 million-dollar renovation, resulting in the merging of three antiquated buildings into one new state-of-the-art facility with two-story classroom wings, full-day kindergarten classes and a “green” design to conserve energy.
Next in line is the expansion and renovation of the Canon-Mac High School and stadium. A 38,700-square-foot addition to the existing 220,000-square-foot building is set to take place. This will include science labs, a large group instruction area, traditional-sized classrooms, expansion of the cafeteria, band room and technology wing, reconfiguration of offices and improvements to the auditorium. “We like the idea of offering 21st-century education to our students,” Chambers said of the classroom uses. The high school currently holds about 1,580 students. When the addition is complete, it will accommodate 1,800.
The stadium renovation is set to begin after the fall football season is a wrap. This project will encompass improvements to the locker rooms, visitor’s side bleachers, throwing areas for track & field, and more parking.
The next project slated to begin will be construction of a new middle school. The school campus will be located off of Route 519 near Canonsburg Hospital. Specific plans for the new school are still in the drawing phase.
Local new home builder, Maronda Homes was first to get a jump on the Canon-MacMillan expansion. Maronda is currently building new single-family homes in Cecil Township. Windsor Woods is proving to be a popular community for current Washington County residents looking for a new open-concept home design, in addition to new comers moving to the area to take advantage of a premier location. Families moving into the community are in the new Muse Elementary School offering full day kindergarten and a great start to elementary education.
Next in line for Maronda Homes will be Magnolia Ridge. This community is brand new and will be located off Rt. 519, across from the newly planned Canon-Macmillan Middle School. Magnolia Ridge will consist of nearly 90 home sites where innovative new home designs will be offered.
