Experience the Holiday Season in Valley Forge and Montgomery County, Pa.
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (PRWEB) December 03, 2015 -- When the winter months give you a reason to stay in, Montco gives you 13 reasons to go out. From residents to visitors, children to adults, Montgomery County has something to offer for everyone to make this holiday season the best one yet.
One of the best parts of the holiday season is a good Christmas tree lighting. Montgomery County takes part in this annual tradition in multiple locations across the county, including The Speaker’s House in Trappe on December 2 and Railroad Plaza in Lansdale December 4.
Speaking of lights, Skippack Village hosts its Illuminaire Nights through December 23. Luminaires line the sidewalks of local establishments, creating a hospitable glow throughout the town. Many merry merchants also provide seasonal treats and activities for shoppers. On December 12, the town of Mont Clare is also set aglow. Hundreds of luminary candles light the path to the historic Locktender’s House and once inside, guests can enjoy the scenes of Charles Dickens’ Christmas and delight in the sounds of holiday music played by local musicians.
For train lovers out there, both Morris Arboretum and Colebrookdale Railroad feature special holiday-themed exhibits. At Morris Arboretum, the annual garden railway is presently chugging along, past scaled-down versions of some of Montgomery County’s most identifiable homes (including Washington’s Headquarters at Valley Forge National Historical Park). Until December 23, Colebrookdale Railroad offers a pajama-clad ride along with the reading of ‘Twas the Night before Christmas or a special ride in the passenger car with Santa Claus himself.
All these events are must-see, but what’s a holiday season without a parade? On December 5, Ambler Main Street's Annual Holiday Parade comes to town with all the best holiday sights and sounds, and of course a guest appearance from St. Nick. On December 6, the streets of downtown Narberth are transformed into 1840s London for all the literature lovers. The Narberth Dickens Festival includes carriage rides, puppet shows and dance performances, among other activities for the whole family.
Theatres across the Montgomery County area are putting their own spin on classic holiday tales. Be sure to stop by Act II Playhouse in Ambler; Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown; and the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville for a wide variety of December-themed shows.
On December 12, Pennypacker Mills holds its Victorian Christmas Open House, which includes a bell choir, Victorian Santa Claus and a candy-making demonstration. From December 11–13, readings of A Christmas Carol are presented by one of Dickens’ great-grandsons at Byers' Choice Christmas Museum in Chalfont.
