Expert Bra Fitter Shares Top Tips for Getting the Perfect Fit
CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) June 23, 2015 -- Research suggests that nearly 85% of the world is still wearing the wrong bra size. Tina Karakourtis, owner of Tina’s Closet in Lisle, IL, has made it her business to help women of all ages find their perfect fit no matter what size, shape or situation. Tina, a Master Corsetiere, is one of America’s leading individualized bra fitting experts, helping women to boost their confidence by helping them find comfort and confidence underneath their favorite style. She has fitted and customized more than one million bras to date, after opening her boutique doors, in 1987. She shares why women are often in the wrong size bra, how the wear of bras can often change its size over time and the importance of getting that right fit.
“Throughout the years, I’ve helped to educate thousands of women on how to apply real ‘bra smarts,’” shares Tina. “Over time, women go through a series of life changes -- puberty, pregnancy, menopause. Each transition can result in breast changes and ultimately, a new bra size. This is why Tina’s Closet has remained so successful. My philosophy isn’t just to sell bras. I also believe that women need to be educated on why their size has changed and the importance of how to wear and care for their investment and how to receive continued support, comfort and an extended bra life.”
“After all,” Tina continues, “bras are generic and women are not.”
Below are five common bra ‘woes’, Tina’s explanations why and suggestions for a better fit.
Top Tips for a Better Bra Fit
• Woe #1: Your bra is riding up your back!
o Two of the most common reasons are that the bra is too big in the band size or the straps of the bra are too short. This causes the bra to be worn over the shoulder blades instead of below.
o Get measured by an expert fitter to make sure you’re wearing the right size.
• Woe #2: Your cup runneth over!
o The bra cup is too small or the band size may be too large or both. This allows the weight of the breast to pull the bra forward causing the breast to ‘runneth’ over.
o Contact a bra specialist who can find a bra to properly fit your size.
• Woe #3: Your straps keep falling off your shoulders!
o Your shoulders may be narrow or the bra band size is too big.
o Purchasing a smaller band size could eliminate both ‘bra woe’ challenges. Also, a simple alteration from an expert fitter might be all you need to help eliminate this problem.
• Woe #4: You have a rash under or between your breasts!
o Typically, the bra is riding up the back, causing the breast to sag onto the chest causing skin to touch skin. The moisture build up it causes is called prickly heat. Old bras which stretch out are typically the culprit, causing the bra to ride up the back.
o Getting re-measured by a bra expert is your best bet.
• Woe #5: Your underwire is digging into your underarm!
o Your bra cup is too small, too big, bra straps are too short or your band size is too loose.
o Buying a smaller band will keep the bra band down in the back allowing the underwire to stay closer to the body and give support.
Tina’s mission for the last 28 years has been to ‘help those who cannot help themselves.’ Over the years, her custom fit bras have helped women feel better and offer a renewed confidence.
“When you have the right size bra on, your clothes look better, you look thinner and you are comfortable. You can handle everyday life without having to worry about pulling and tugging on your bra all day,” adds Tina.
After a couple of decades running a successful business, even during the recent recession, expanding her store two times, from 700 to 3400 sq ft., Tina has written two books. Her first book, A Perfect Success, focuses on her journey to follow her calling as an expert bra fitter and small business owner.
