Expert Gentle Sleep Coach Unveils Six Circumstances That Can Derail Children’s Sleep
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 17, 2013 -- Parents can sometimes spend days, weeks, and even months tackling the challenge of getting their child to fall asleep at bedtime and naptime. The ordeal can cause sleepless nights for both the child and parents. Child sleep expert Ancy Lewis of Sleeping Little Dreamers recently released six circumstances that derail children’s sleep and provides child sleeping insight on how re-establishing routines, extra communication with the child, and sometimes just TLC can get a child back into a normal sleep routine.
A child who acts out could be trying to tell a parent that they are sleep deprived. Whether the holidays have caused changes to the child’s routine, or there are changes in the family’s circumstances, children are affected by changes to their normal daily routine. Parents need to be aware of these changes and the effects they have on their children so that a few sleepless nights do not change into a normal occurrence.
“As we rush into the holiday season, most peoples’ lives begin to fast forward with stress and events; like holiday parties, overcoming seasonal illness, and dealing with the change in the weather,” said Lewis. “The six circumstances I present here are just a few of the potential reasons your child could be dealing with sleep deprivation. By consulting with a sleep coach, we can assess your child’s needs for immediate results.”
Here is a sneak preview of the factors that may derail your child’s sleep habits:
1. The Holidays
‘Tis the season to be sleep disrupted. The holidays bring fun and enjoyment to children; unfortunately the season also can bring many of the triggers that cause children to fall into bad sleep habits. Stimulating late night parties, visitors during nap times, holiday travel, and broken daily routines are some of the culprits that can make even the best sleepers forget their skills.
If you find that your child has started fighting naps, won’t go to sleep at their bed-time, or gets up more after the holidays are over, it is probably because they are sleep deprived from the holiday festivities.

2. Moving
A move can affect younger children more than they can express. Leaving the home that they knew and sometimes the state or country to which they have become accustomed can be jolting. Young children can’t fully express their sadness or disappointment in missing their home or friends and family that may be too far away.
These emotions can play out during bedtime and sleep time. If you add a time zone change with the relocation, it can be especially challenging for a child to take on the skill of soothing him or herself to sleep.
