Experts Convene to Discuss the Transformation in Addiction Treatment and Recovery
Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 04, 2016 -- Three experts in the field of population health management, addiction treatment and recovery, recently hosted a webinar, ‘Opportunities to Improve Outcomes in Addiction Treatment’, to address the transformation taking place in the approaches to addiction treatment.
Greg Williams, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Facing Addiction, facilitated the live discussion. Expert panelists included Jacob Levenson, CEO of MAP Health Management, recognized for creating the nation’s preeminent population health platform in order for treatment providers to collect empirical addiction treatment outcomes data, and Justin Luke Riley, President and CEO of Young People in Recovery, a notable expert in the field who recently participated in an extensive panel discussion at the National Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit, with President Obama and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
“We are finally seeing some connective tissue building between acute and chronic treatment for Substance Use Disorder patients,” commented Greg Williams during the session’s opening remarks. “Effective treatment can produce successful long-term recovery outcomes and we cannot expect acute-care models to effectively treat chronic illnesses.”
“Our nation and society are in a crisis mode that must be addressed,” added Jacob Levenson. “We need to deploy the right treatment to the right people in an effort to effectively combat this disease.” “Different patients require different models of care to achieve and maintain recovery,” noted Justin Luke Riley. “A person-centered approach, rather than a one-size-fits-all method, is required for long-term recovery.”
The webinar’s experts agreed that treatment providers, consumers, and communities are beginning to understand that providing patients with individual pathways of treatment using a patient-centered approach is the key to successful long-term recovery.
“Interoperability and integration of data are key to a modern and successful treatment model,” said Levenson. “We crave predictability and technology can inform our decision making process. Historically, the field has not done enough to demonstrate its effectiveness – we hear every day what’s wrong, and we now have the resources for providers to demonstrate success rates. Data is making this happen.”
“By understanding how to best utilize higher levels of care, we can measure outcomes, inform and empower patients, and achieve long-term recovery for those who suffer from addiction,” concluded Riley. “The field will be well-served to come together and recognize that there are multiple pathways that can lead to successful recovery.”
Williams concluded the discussion by commenting that it is incumbent for “treatment providers to extend the continuum of care for patients” and to no longer be limited by acute-care treatment models.
