Expway, Nemergent and Bittium Successfully Demonstrate The World’s First eMBMS-capable MC-PTT Integration
Paris, France (PRWEB) September 25, 2017 -- Expway, the LTE Broadcast expert and leader, Bittium, the manufacturer of reliable and secure Bittium Tough Mobile, and innovative MC-PTT (Mission-Critical Push-To-Talk) provider Nemergent, today announced the successful demonstration of a 3GPP Rel13 compliant end-to-end multicast group calls with Mission Critical eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services) bearers.
The three companies integrated their products over standard compliant interfaces on the core side (MB2-C/U) and between the MC-PTT Application Server and Application Clients. This important milestone opens up new opportunities for experimentation and field trials, eventually aimed at increasing the safety, and enhancing the experience of first responders while at the same time optimising the use of radio resources.
Public safety agencies are starting to evolve their narrowband LMR (Land Mobile Radio) technologies to LTE (Long Term Evolution) based solutions. LTE is 3GPP standards based and used as commercial cellular network technology worldwide and it has been proven to offer high performance, spectrum flexibility and security. With MC-PTT as part of the LTE 3GPP Release 13, LTE has emerged as the perfect technology for mission critical push to talk.

Multicast transmission is a mandatory feature to provide efficient group communications over mobile broadband networks. eMBMS is the technology that provides multicast communications in LTE networks for different applications including video/audio broadcasting and mission critical communications.

In mid 2016, the 3GPP made a big leap forward towards standardized mission critical communications with the definition of an MC-PTT suite of protocols in its Release 13. The resulting ecosystem includes MC-PTT Application Servers, core configuration and management servers, and MC-PTT mobile devices. Aimed at fostering the deployment of commercial MC-PTT solutions, one of the critical aspects is assuring the interoperability of the eMBMS anchors between the MC-PTT service and the LTE network components both at the server and client sides.
