Extensis Joins International Press Telecommunications Council to Help Advance Global Photo Metadata Standards
Northampton, UK (PRWEB UK) 24 September 2015 -- Extensis® announced today it has joined the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) standards body as an Associate Member, extending the company’s commitment to advancing standards designed to making working with metadata easier. Extensis currently supports the IPTC Photo Metadata standard in its digital asset management solution—Extensis Portfolio®— and will continue to advance this support in future releases.
The IPTC is the global standards body of the news media, developing and promoting efficient technical standards to improve the management and exchange of information.
The IPTC Photo Metadata sets the industry standard for administrative, descriptive, and copyright information about images.
By adding support for this standard, Extensis Portfolio makes available a comprehensive base of metadata fields. Users simply select and apply a standard to begin working with fields.
Toby Martin, Vice President of Development & Strategy at Extensis notes: “Metadata standards are a known quantity for photos, thanks to the work of industry groups like the IPTC who focuses largely on photography and news media. These standards have made countless lives easier.”
Martin added: “Through Extensis’ membership in IPTC and Extensis’ use of metadata standards today, we plan to continue the focus on standardised metadata and to give our customers the ability to tailor what we have around their views.”
“Extensis as system vendor has taken the essential role of enabling companies managing photos to make efficient use of IPTC’s widely used photo metadata standard”, said Michael Steidl, IPTC managing director and lead of the photo metadata work. “IPTC welcomes Extensis as new member of our organisation; we will work jointly on improving professional photo workflows”, he added.
Extensis Portfolio Standard Support
Extensis supports a broad base of standards in Extensis Portfolio. The company recently announced its support for the SPECTRUM Standard and VRA Core, two key industry standards designed to make working with metadata easier for museums and cultural heritage institutions around the globe. Extensis Portfolio also supports EXIF and XML.
