Extreme Couponing Benefits Minnesota Toys for Tots
Plymouth, MN (PRWEB) December 06, 2013 -- With the costs of living such as health care, gas and groceries continuing to rise, it would be great to showcase the creative ways local companies and individuals are still giving back this holiday season.
“Not everyone can afford to give, but there are many ways of giving back to the community other than money. This is a fun and inventive way I can give back using my coupon experience to make a difference,” says Autumn Righter, the Summit employee who came up with the idea. “We were able to donate 60% more toys by using coupons and taking advantage of promotions and sales. Imagine the impact if everyone did just half of that?”
2012 Summit Mortgage Employee donations to Toys for Tots:
- Total money raised/spent: $388.63
- Total savings from coupons only: $347.86
- Total savings from coupons, promotions, discounted items: $539.36
- Total value of toys delivered: $927.99
This year, Summit is looking to share this idea with as many people as possible, hoping it will inspire others to start similar efforts. “It’s awesome to see our employees get involved and really go above and beyond to give back in any way that they can,” added Robert Carter, CEO of Summit Mortgage. “Autumn is an inspiration, not only for us, but for many others out there who can give with their time and knowledge.”
Summit employees will be delivering this year’s bounty to Toys for Tots at KARE 11 Studios on Friday, December 20th, one day before the donation deadline on Dec. 21st.
For those looking to start a similar program, Ms. Righter suggests starting early and getting your local store staff involved. “Give yourself enough time to collect donations while searching both ads and online coupons so you can match them up and maximize savings. Be sure to tell the store employees what cause you’re doing it for. You’d be surprised how much they can help you find the best deals to help the kids.”
Summit Mortgage Corporation is one of the largest privately-owned mortgage companies in Minnesota, with branches in 15 states and corporate headquarters based in Plymouth since 1992.
In addition to company charitable giving, Summit employees also donated $24,920 last year through individual donations and the company’s matching programs to various charities including Spare Key, World Vision, The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross and The First Step Initiative (a charity launched by Summit’s owners).
