Extreme Escape unlocks live action gaming in San Antonio
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) March 15, 2016 -- Extreme Escape, a live-action entertainment game where groups of players must solve clues to “escape” a themed room opened March 11 along the IH10 corridor. Longtime Alamo Plaza attractions company Phillips Entertainment Inc (PEI) is bringing this new thrill in entertainment to San Antonians.
“Escape rooms are a unique twist in entertainment that we are excited to bring to San Antonio residents,” said Davis Phillips, president of PEI, which operates seven attractions along the famed Alamo Plaza. “In my thirty years in the entertainment and tourism industry, I have not seen anything like it.”
Escape rooms started in Asia, where video game developers began applying the puzzles and clues found in gaming into real-life scenarios. The concept made its way to Europe in 2010, and across to the United States, where more than 400 escape rooms have opened in the US in the last three years.
“We have been developing this concept for San Antonio for over a year,” said Phillips. “We experienced escape rooms in several markets during our research, and believe Extreme Escape will take participants to a whole other time and place—which makes the thrill of escaping that much more intense.”
Extreme Escape offers four themed rooms. From a sinking pirate ship to a super villain’s laboratory, to a hidden medical bunker in a zombie apocalypse or a master illusionists’ 1929 study, participants will be transported to that time and place. The themed and immersive environment will include state of the art audio/visual effects, including a variety of scents to decipher.
Phillips tapped Eric Princz of Creative Design and Engineering and Kevin McCurdy of ImaginArts Studio to create the high quality experience. “The design team has 20 years of experience in developing multi-sensory environments for attractions. Our goal is to immerse players into a fully realized game world unlike anything the escape room market has seen before,” said Phillips.
Each game in each respective room is limited to 10 players. Game masters monitor the room through high tech video and sound equipment, guiding the players should they become stuck on a clue.
“People keep asking me, ‘Can I really NOT leave the room? Am I really locked in?,’ said Phillips. “That’s part of the game. However, if a player wants out before the game is complete, we will always honor their request.”
Phillips believes corporations and organizations will turn to Extreme Escape for team building and group activities, and locals will have a new entertainment venue to call their own. “After years on Alamo Plaza, it’s exciting to venture into a different area of San Antonio with a new concept. Our team is ready to bring this new entertainment phenomenon to the Alamo City,” said Phillips.
