Exults Donates to Help Students Pay For Their Lunches
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) April 21, 2017 -- A hot school lunch is something that every student should be able to enjoy. For various reasons, students often show up at the end of the lunch line without adequate funds in their accounts.
Christian Cordon-Cano, a junior at The King's Academy in West Palm Beach, has stepped up to help with their charitable project known as the School Lunch Fairy, and Exults has become a part of the effort to make sure that a healthy school lunch is readily available for every student.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides a free and reduced-price school lunch program for children of qualifying families throughout the country. The USDA reimburses schools for feeding those who participate in this program. Schools receive $3.16 for each student who gets a free lunch and $2.76 for those who have a reduced-price lunch.
58 percent of schools incur unpaid meal costs. The vast majority of these still serve a meal to the child, leaving their budgets to take a hit. This is a major problem in a landscape where schools are already underfunded. Florida ranks 42nd in the country for funding per student. It's important for schools to find an alternative source for unpaid meal accounts that doesn't leave students hungry.
The School Lunch Fairy program is raising funds to help cover these unpaid lunch balances. Founder Christian Cordon-Cano encourages supporters to, "Help us make a dent on unpaid school lunch balances at public schools." The project has a funding goal of $5,000. Exults is stepping up to join the effort with a donation of its own. Passionate about supporting local efforts such as the School Lunch Fairy, Exults founder and CEO Zach Hoffman says, “We want to help the community in any way we can. We’re excited about this initiative because it will help students across South Florida.”
