Fairfield Theatre Co. Welcomes back Loudon Wainwright III to StageOne
Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- There are very few people who are able to excel as a successful actor and musician, yet London Wainwright III has proven that he is up for the challenge. Coming back to the Fairfield Theatre Company’s StageOne on Saturday, September 14, at 7:30 p.m., Wainwright brings his blend of folk, rock, blues, and humor back to Fairfield County.
With a career that consists of 25 albums and a song catalog which has been covered by the likes of Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright and Mose Allison among others, Wainwright comes back to the intimate StageOne venue with his latest release, Older Than My Old Man Now.
As an actor, Wainwright has appeared in films directed by Martin Scorsese, Hal Ashby, Christopher Guest, Tim Burton, Cameron Crowe, Judd Apatow, and taken roles in TV shows like M.A.S.H. and Undeclared. Full of duets and subtexts that would take a family therapist years to untangle, Wainwright sings and reflects upon the age he's reached in his life, and, as he so wryly puts it, the "death 'n' decay" that inevitably accompanies it.
"Singer-songwriter contemporaries of mine have recently taken to writing memoirs and autobiographies," notes Wainwright. "I decided I would try to tell the story of my swinging life in a three and one-half minute song."
Re-reading his father’s work, Wainwright recognized similarities between both men and noticed they were both were “hung up about the same things.” Wainwright, who recites several of the journalist’s homilies before performing, seamlessly carries the theme that suggests a deft way with words could be hereditary. Older Than My Old Man features songs from his father’s writing days, which Wainwright considers as an intense bout of soul-searching for the legendary actor and musician. Wainwright finds himself in a new region of focus as a performer, analyzing his relationships, including those with his own children. Wainwright continues to have the right balance between wry humor and self-laceration which has kept the poetically humorous musician/actor a common name for the last four decades.
Come and join Fairfield Theatre as they welcome back Wainwright for a night filled with stories, music and gut reaching humor that seamlessly blends music and comedy.
Doors open at 7 p.m. on September 14, with the show to begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $62 in advance and the members discount is $5. Tickets can be bought online at http://www.fairfieldtheatre.org.
