Fairfield Theatre Company Presents 90s Rocking Women’s Week
Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) July 05, 2013 -- Fairfield Theatre Company presents a weekend of 1990s female performers at StageOne as they welcome singer-songwriter Jill Sobule with Saturday Night Live alumni Julia Sweeney on July 9 and Grammy Award winner Paula Cole on Friday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Sobule is a multitalented performer who recently opened for Hot Tuna at the Norwalk Concert Hall. Her style has been compared to that of Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, Joan Osborne or Edie Brickell. Having produced over five albums, the Denver-born songwriter has performed with Neil Young, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Cyndi Lauper, Tom Morello and Warren Zevon. She also had the honor of inducting Neil Diamond into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
Sobule, who typically performs solo, will be joined by Sweeney, co star of the Jill & Julia Show. Sweeney, a former member of Saturday Night Live cast during the 90s, made her mark on the show by her performances of such characters as Chelsea Clinton and “Pat.” Sobule and Sweeney’s partnership promises to entertain audiences in an unusual way with a combination of storytelling, humor, intelligence, skillful light-handedness and a plethora of styles featuring Sobule’s dynamic songwriting, including her 90s hits “I Kissed A Girl” and “Supermodel.”
Doors will open for the Sobule and Sweeney show at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at StageOne, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield. Tickets are $28. The members’ discount is $3.
On Friday, July 12, Fairfield Theatre Company is delighted to welcome Grammy winner and seven-time Grammy nominee Paula Cole to the intimate StageOne Theatre in support of her latest release, “Raven.” The established Grammy Award winning songwriter and performer’s first independent release and sixth studio album is a collection of self-described “highly personal” new songs that was funded by fans through a Kickstarter campaign.
Cole has sold over three million albums and performed amongst icons in many genres of music, from Peter Gabriel to Dolly Parton. Cole’s emotionally deep and thrilling performances are a trademark of poetic and intelligent writing that is unique and has been covered by the likes of Herbie Hancock, Annie Lennox and Katherine McPhee. She is the first woman in history to solely produce and receive the Best Producer Grammy nomination for her work. Her top 10 hits of the 1990’s include “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone.”
Doors open for the Cole show at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at StageOne, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield. Tickets are $35; the members’ discount is $3.
