Every migration season, thousands of black-faced spoonbills gather at the estuary of Zengwen River, a tidal mudflat in Qigu. Visitors can participate in the fun activity of collecting stamps on their travel with the purchase of the limited edition “Taiwan Four-Lighthouse Pass” and “Slow Tour Taiwan” booklet, then visit the “Black-Faced Spoonbill Ecology Exhibition Hall” to learn more about the birds’ behavior and habitat. Eco-plays and DIY craft activity are available during the spoonbill season. Taijiang boasts exquisite waterfront scenery with a unique salt field culture. Visitors can take a raft ride through the “Sicao Mangrove Preserve (Zhufagang Canal)” which is known as the Amazon River of Taiwan and paddling through the mangrove waterway brings you to a travelers' favorite photo opportunity called the “Kiss of Angels.”
"The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area of Taiwan encompasses high mountains at an altitude of almost 3,000 feet with a highly diverse range of bird species. Birdwatchers can observe a myriad of waterfowl, mountain birds, and migratory birds from tropical to boreal origins, as well as rare endemic species. Registration for the 2016 Taiwan Birdathon is now open. Teams of contestants will compete fairly and honestly by whoever spots the greatest number of different bird species with their eyes and ears in the 30-hour time limit.The first competition was held last year; We welcome all bird lovers to participate in this year's second iteration.
