Family Promise of Skagit Valley is Homeless for a Night
Mount Vernon, WA (PRWEB) September 25, 2017 -- In partnership with local congregations, individuals, and businesses in the community, Family Promise of Skagit Valley raised over $51,000 in one sleepless Saturday night so that more families can receive the resources they need for self-sufficiency. These donations to Family Promise of Skagit Valley assist in their mission to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence.
Participants obtained pledges from family and friends to sleep in their car for one night to raise awareness of the homeless population of many families in the community, and to raise funds for operating the family shelter. Melisa Aalem, Director of Family Promise of Skagit Valley said, “Our shelter and transition house have been completely full for the last month, and we have 14 families on a waiting list to enter the program. These funds are necessary to meet the growing need of homeless families.”
A special thanks to the businesses that made donations to help with the event: Janicki Industries, Swinomish Casino, Semanko Realty Group, Max Dale’s Steak & Chop House, Brad Methner State Farm Insurance, Stiles Law, Northwest Physical Therapy, Blade Chevrolet; Snelson Construction, Pat Rimmer Tire, Stowe’s Shoes and Clothing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, Craft Stove of Western WA, Smiley Insurance Services, Tri Dee Arts, Eaglemont Golf, S & W Pies, and Pioneer Potatoes. Salem Lutheran Church, Mount Vernon, hosted the 31 cars in their church parking lot overnight. Participants enjoyed a concert inside the church Saturday evening before settling in their cars for the night.
