Family Ties and Answered Whys: One Man's Genealogical Study Reveals New Piece of American History
San Diego (PRWEB) January 21, 2016 -- Before Ancestry.com was an option, he set out to uncover his family’s past.
In his new book, Rittenhouse, author J.D. Rittenhouse’s hunger to connect with his family and past provides a unique look at American history. Thanks to countless years of research, Rittenhouse tells the historic tale of how one man initiated a family line that now consists of many significant Americans, through fictionalized dialogue.
“Discovering your family’s history is a step toward discovering yourself,” Rittenhouse said. “I hope to inspire others to uncover their own genealogy through my story and that of my family.”
After being raised in foster homes and orphanages, a lack of knowledge about his family led Rittenhouse on 15-year journey of researching and writing about his family’s history.
“While we all know the names of high-ranking military officers, politicians, statesmen and scientists, we must remember that it was the unknowns who died in the battles,” Rittenhouse said. “It was upon the works and accomplishments of the unknowns that others built their reputations. That is what this story is about.”

About the author
Throughout his 15 years spent researching and writing about his family’s history, J. D. Rittenhouse discovered that some of his ancestors were influencers in the early years of America. His ninth great-grandfather built the first paper mill in North America and his seventh great uncle, a world-renowned astronomer, surveyor and mathematician, was the first Secretary of the United States Mint.
However, because of Rittenhouse’s professional responsibilities, further inquiries into his family history were put on hold until his retirement from his law practice 15 years ago. Since then, Rittenhouse, a native of Lansing, Mich., and now a resident of San Diego, has been researching and writing about his rich family history.
