FDB Donates $10,000 to NCPDP Foundation for Research to Optimize ePrescribing
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- NCPDP Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that is affiliated with NCPDP, announced today that FDB (First Databank, Inc.), the leading provider of clinical drug knowledge that improves medication-related decisions and patient outcomes, has made a $10,000 unrestricted donation to NCPDP Foundation. The announcement was made at a “Welcome to Indy” Reception that FDB hosted Tuesday evening for over 200 attendees of the NCPDP 2014 Educational Summit and Joint Technical Work Group Meetings. The $10,000 donation will be matched dollar for dollar with matching funds approved by the Board of Trustees of NCPDP.
“ePrescribing adoption is rapidly growing [ePrescribing is being used by more than 70% of doctors and 95% of pharmacies], but there’s still a lot functionality that is underutilized,” explained Tom Bizzaro, R.Ph., FDB vice president of health policy & industry relations and immediate past chair of the NCPDP Board of Trustees. “We need to find ways to improve use of ePrescribing to optimize its benefits in improving patient safety and health outcomes.”
FDB’s donation will be used to help fund research that identifies issues related to industry-wide adoption of the full functionality available in electronic prescribing (ePrescribing) standards: the NCPDP SCRIPT and Formulary and Benefit Standards.
Bizzaro continued, “This research is important to FDB because we are deeply committed to supporting efforts that drive industry-wide adoption of NCPDP standards. The ePrescribing standards provide for a more connected healthcare system and are designed to meet the workflow and information needs of doctors, nurses and pharmacists – to ultimately better serve patients.”
Bizzaro added, “We are honored to host this reception to highlight the NCPDP Foundation and show our appreciation for its work in helping to advance NCPDP’s mission in the healthcare industry.”
Bizzaro presented the check to NCPDP Foundation President, Charlie Oltman, MBA, CHC, Sr. Manager Regulatory Affairs at Target Corporation, and Foundation Board Member, Lee Ann Stember, NCPDP President.
“This marks the first major gift donation to the NCPDP Foundation, and it is especially poignant to have Tom, a former NCPDP Chair, present FDB’s donation,” said Stember. “On behalf of the entire Foundation Board, we thank FDB for this generous donation and continued support in advancing the use of interoperable industry standards to improve healthcare.”
