New York, NY (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- For the third year, members of the FDNY will ride cross-country on their motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for military families. This year, the FDNY Rumblers will cover more than 3,500 miles in five cities. All proceeds from the event will go toward Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit organization that assists post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.
The FDNY Rumblers is a community-based fundraising group of firefighters from Battalion 14 in the South Bronx of New York City. Members of this group include Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, as well as first responders to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. The group’s mission is to raise awareness and funds for wounded U.S. service members, their families, and families of the fallen.
The Rumblers will begin their journey in New York City on June 23 and end there on July 2, 2015. They will travel to cities such as Memphis, TN, Dallas, TX, Nashville, TN, and Bethesda, MD. This year’s fundraising route will take them down south, where they will volunteer with wounded veterans at the 35th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Dallas and at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda.
The FDNY Rumblers’ organizer is Chris Walsh, a New York Firefighter since 2001, 9/11 first responder, and USMC Infantry Major with one combat tour in Iraq.
“We ride to remember those who have fought for our freedom,” said Walsh. “This opportunity allows us to work with Hope For The Warriors® to honor those who sacrifice all for these freedoms."
