February Features Music, Dance and a Birthday Piñata
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) February 12, 2015 -- February is a Stepping Stones month of music, dance and even a birthday piñata to get the whole family out of the house and moving, a welcome change from the cabin fever of all the snow days.
In 2015, Stepping Stones is visiting 12 different historic regions of the USA as part of its award-winning “Around the World” program. At 2:00 pm on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, the New Orleans jazz band “Cool Cats” will be playing in the Multimedia Gallery. In this interactive performance, visitors will learn about the roots of jazz and listen to and learn about the sounds that create this music enjoyed today by millions. This “Around the World: Performance Series” celebrates the museum’s visit to The Bayou for the month of February.
Also on Valentine’s Day, Stepping Stones opens its doors for free admission from 9:00 - 11:00 am for families with children who have special needs. “Accessibility Day” occurs the second Saturday of every month and is a part of the Stepping Stones “Open Arms” program.
Finally, in celebration of the 15th birthday of Stepping Stones Museum for Children on March 11, visitors are enjoying 15 months of birthday fun. These events occur on the 15th of every month, “15-on-the-15th.” On Sunday, February 15, visitors will enjoy a “pull-string” piñata stuffed with cool stuff (no candy), singing “Happy Birthday,” meeting BooZoo™ and watching lots of balloons and fireworks spray across the museum’s giant media screen in the Multimedia Room.
The “crown jewel” of School Vacation Week: Stepping Stones is hosting its annual sell-out event of the season, Winter Wonderland Children’s Ball from 6:00 - 8:30 pm on Saturday, February 21.
The museum cordially invites all little princes and princesses for a magical evening in a snow-kissed wonderland. Dress up in your finest, learn how to swing dance with Paolo and Laurenti and enjoy “cool” activities like ice-hole fishing. The museum café will be transformed into a formal dining room, complete with linens, centerpieces and flameless candles for the perfect family dinner ambiance.
Reservation is required. Early bird reservation is through Feb. 19. During early bird registration, the event costs $10 per person for members and $15 per person for non-members. During regular registration, it costs $12 per person for members and $17 per person for non-members.
At 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 28, enjoy an “Around the World: Performance Series” by the group “Themselves: The Oregon Trail – A Tale of Westward expansion.” This is an 1850’s story of a young girl traveling by wagon train from Independence, Missouri to the farmlands of Oregon. Period songs, costumes, props, journal entries and scenes all contribute to a tale of a remarkable journey. All “Around the World” activities are always free with admission.
