Federal Cannabis Caucus? ~ Business of Cannabinoid Science to be Housed in Congress Notes Publius
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 29, 2013 -- “There’s a quickening to the business of cannabinoids,” observed Bryan W. Brickner, part of Publius, the pen name used by the authors of The Cannabis Papers: A citizen’s guide to cannabinoids (2011), “and now the US House is showing signs of life.”
Brickner’s observation is based on a 25 November press release posted in The Wall Street Journal. Cannabis Science, Inc., a US company focusing on developing cannabinoid (cannabis) based medicines, announced it is part of a coalition: “working with the cannabis caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives to initiate substantial changes in 2014 in the way cannabis research and drug development can be done in this country.”
The release states that Cannabis Science, other experts in cannabis drug research and development, and a bi-partisan coalition in Congress have drafted legislation to authorize: “cannabinoid scientific research as a legal entity and that cannabinoids as a class of drugs is a legitimate focus for scientific investigation as to their properties, effects and outcomes for chronic and infectious diseases for the citizens of the United States of America.”
Dr. Robert Melamede, president of Cannabis Science (and quoted in The Cannabis Papers ~ Potscript), noted in the release: “We expect ground breaking changes in 2014 in our ability to conduct clinically-related drug research with cannabinoids. We will have a definitively clearer pathway for much needed clinical research on cannabinoids next year that will allow us to determine the clinical affect of dozens of different strains of cannabis for chronic and infectious disease.”
“More,” cheered Brickner. “More Dr. Melamede, more research, more business, more knowledge of cannabinoids and the cannabinoid system – and an active House cannabis caucus … that’s a haze clearer.”
Brickner has a 1997 political science doctorate from Purdue University and is the author of several political theory books, to include The Promise Keepers (1999), Article the first of the Bill of Rights (2006), and The Book of the Is (2013).
