FEECO’s Barry Wilson to Speak at Biosolids Workshop
Green Bay, WI (PRWEB) November 08, 2013 -- Barry Wilson, Operations Manager of FEECO International’s facility in Australia, will be sharing his vision on alternative crop nutrition technologies at the RMIT Biosolids Workshop 2013 in Melbourne, Australia on November 14.
Wilson, an expert in the Australian agricultural industry, holds a double major Bachelor of Applied Science degree in both animal and plant biology from the University of Southern Queensland and has completed post graduate studies in both alternative agriculture from the University of Queensland and business studies from the Australian Institute of Management and Mount Eliza School of Business. Wilson’s education, combined with over 30 years of hands-on experience in the agricultural and chemical fertilizer industries, has strengthened his ability to identify industry problems and opportunities, particularly in the biosolids sector. Additionally, he has spent more than a decade doing extensive research on the use of waste stream and carbon-based materials in the production of hybrid granular fertilizers.
At this year’s Biosolids Workshop, Wilson will present his concepts regarding actively pursuing the recycling of plant production nutrients. “Society is well-structured to recycle paper, metals, glass, etc., and yet allows valuable nutrients such as Phosphorus, Nitrogen, and Potassium to move from farm to food to landfill. The use of wastewater biosolids will have a key role in preserving such finite resources, creating an opportunity to reduce costs to society, remove requirements for landfills and associated greenhouse gas emissions, and in doing so, create the potential to generate a new income stream,” said Wilson.
In his talk, Wilson will share his research, principles, and practices that support the viability of recycling crop nutrients in biosolids. He will also examine real case studies from biosolids use overseas. “This new approach to crop nutrition will lead to beneficial business opportunities, provide sound alternative technologies to the farming sector, and allow a high degree of environmental stewardship within the new carbon-conscious economy,” said Wilson.
Now in its second year, the RMIT Biosolids Workshop is an opportunity for industry professionals and researchers in the biosolids field to connect and discuss contemporary activities and future opportunities in this unique sector. The theme of this year’s event is “Linking Industry with Research,” with a focus on community engagement and regulation review.
