Ferguson 1000 and Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging Host "Save Our Sons" Inaugural Graduating Class
Ferguson MO (PRWEB) February 26, 2015 -- "Save Our Sons" is a program offered to African-American men residing in Ferguson and surrounding North St. Louis County communities. The 10 graduates toured Legacy's 189,000 square foot facility, gaining insight into careers within the pharmaceutical packing industry.
Each graduate of the "Save Our Sons" program were encouraged to apply for open positions within the company. As part of the Ferguson 1000 initiative, Legacy has committed to creating 25 new jobs
"We are grateful to Ferguson 1000 and Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging for offering these young African-American men the opportunity to apply their newly developed job training skills just days after graduation," said Herta Shikapwashya, Vice President of Youth Services for the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.
"We are encouraged by the support St. Louis business leaders like Dave Spence have shown for the 'Save Our Sons' program," Shikapwashya said.

"There are some harsh realities that stem from unemployment or chronic underemployment," Spence said, "St. Louis employers should look to 'hire local' as a way to support workers and families in our region."
Ferguson 1000 has been encouraged by the "widespread enthusiasm" from local employers and individuals eager to play a role in fostering economic opportunity for our region through job training, volunteering as a mentor to young entrepreneurs, and offering opportunities for full-time employment.
Some of St. Louis' largest employers like Centene, Emerson Electric and Express Scripts have already committed to bringing hundreds of new jobs to the area.
Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging is a contract pharmaceutical packing firm with approximately 250 employees. The company operates out of a 189,000 sq. foot facility in Earth City, MO
