Fiber-optic Infrastructures in Cities Are Discussed in New "Leading Edge" Segment with Host Jimmy Johnson
(PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- Fiber optics has revolutionized the way be make long-distance phone calls, access the internet, and even how they watch TV. Many have called fiber optics the future of telecommunications, but how exactly does it work?
A new segment for the series "Leading Edge", hosted by Jimmy Johnson, hopes to unveil some of those answers by exploring the past, present, and future of fiber optic technology. The "Leading Edge" team will be working with government officials and fiber-optic contractors to educate on the opportunities this technological infrastructure can have in a community. The episode will be part of a larger series that explores cutting edge technology.
Fiber optics is the use of glass, plastic, or other solid materials to transmit signals. In the case of cities, fiber optics will be used to transmit information for communication purposes. These strands are each only slightly larger than a human hair.
