FierceGovernmentIT Survey Reveals Obstacles to Federal Cloud Adoption, Despite Improved Outreach and Education
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- FierceGovernmentIT today announced the results of a federal information technology survey uncovering cultural roadblocks and organizational challenges that may be interfering with the adoption of cloud computing across government.
The survey also shows there is a significant gap in the perceived benefits of cloud computing technology among general IT workers and IT managers in the federal government.
The poll examined how federal IT professionals perceive and work with the Federal Risk Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, which is the General Services Administration-led program designed to streamline and standardize the security authorization of cloud technologies for federal use.
The survey, conducted by FierceGovernmentIT and government market research firm Market Connections, Inc., was co-sponsored by Carpathia (A QTS Company), VMware and Carahsoft, and is presented in a downloadable editorial report, complete with analysis from federal officials.

Some of the survey’s notable findings:
• 66 percent of respondents said cloud computing is essential to their organization’s operations, but 76 percent maintain that moving their most sensitive information to the cloud will continue to be slow.
• Only 30 percent of respondents said they have the right in-house expertise – between the IT and procurement staff – to effectively buy a cloud service.
• 72 percent of respondents said assessing cloud security risk was the biggest obstacle to shifting a service to the cloud.
• 40 percent of general federal IT workers said moving to the cloud improves security but only 21 percent of federal IT managers agreed.
• 44 percent of respondents said the biggest drawback to using FedRAMP is the slow authorization process through the Joint Authorization Board.
About the survey:
Results for the survey are based on an online poll of 200 federal employees with some involvement in technology solutions. The sample represents a mix of defense, civilian, legislative and judicial respondents. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 6.9% at a 95% confidence level.
