Finalists Named for 10th Annual Global Automotive & Mobility Innovation Challenge – Sponsored by SAE International and MI Innovation Alliance
DETROIT (PRWEB) March 13, 2018 -- The Global Automotive & Mobility Innovation Challenge (GAMIC) has selected 12 innovative start-ups to move on to the Finals of its 10th annual competition, sponsored by SAE International and MI Innovation Alliance. The 2018 GAMIC Finalists, from five countries and five U.S. states, all feature new technologies to advance the vehicles and transportation systems of the future.
To make it to the Finals, the contestants chosen in six Regional Quarter-finals competed in front of judges from the OEM, Tier 1 supplier, and start-up investment communities during the Feb. 23 Semi-finals held at Walsh College in Troy, Mich. Judges chose the companies to move on to the Finals – and compete for over $300,000 in in-kind assistance and cash awards – based on factors including their business propositions, acceleration plans, and potential impact of their technologies on the mobility industry.
The 2018 GAMIC Finals will take place at Noon on April 10 in Room 252-B at Detroit’s Cobo Center at the SAE International WCX'18 World Congress Experience. With over 1,000 hours of expert-led technical sessions, organized in seven specialized tracks, attendees of WCX will have a front-row seat to powerful insights and current thinking on topics that will impact future vehicle development and society.
The GAMIC Award Winners, as well as the winner of the PlanetM “Best in Michigan Mobility Award”, will be announced at 5:15 p.m. on April 10, on the main floor Exhibition Hall in the WCX Learning Lab. The four Award Winners will reprise their presentations on April 12 at 3:00 p.m. in the Learning Lab. Admission to the SAE WCX World Congress Exhibition Hall (and the GAMIC Finals) are both free; however, pre-registration is required at Register for Finals – WCX. No walk-in registrations allowed.
This year’s GAMIC Finalists are:
- Arbor Automation: Developer of software solutions for automating CNC manufacturing and product development. Ann Arbor, Mich.
- ClearFlame Engines: Uses practical, commercial technology to improve diesel engine efficiency and reduce emissions. Chicago, Ill.
- Eclypses: Micro-token exchange solution provider for cybersecurity protection. Colorado Springs, Colo.
- GhostWave: Creator of improved ADAS radar immune from interference. Columbus, Ohio
- Parkofon: Creator of an all-in-one hand-free parking device that removes the need for meters and other parking payment systems. Alexandria, Va.
- Pitstop Predictive Maintenance: Predictive vehicle technology that identifies failures before they happen. Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
- SafeMode Tech: Lifesaving system provider for drivers and autonomous cars. Tel Aviv, Israel
- Scientel: Develops advanced NewSQL Super Database for true Big Data. Novi, Mich.
- SkyBridge Infotech: Mobile app developer for auto dealerships that will help increase the conversion of leads to sales. Tamil Nadu, India
- Spectalite!: Cost-effective bamboo and plastic composites manufacturer. Detroit, Mich.
- Trillium Inc.: Cyber security system designer and provider for automotive IoT. Tokyo, Japan
- Vartega: Manufacturer of low-cost recycled carbon fiber used for vehicle light-weighting. Golden, Colo.
GAMIC contestants compete in four technology categories:
1. Vehicle Electrification, Connectivity, Cybersecurity, and Advanced Mobility
2. Advanced Materials, Sensors, and Manufacturing Processes
3. Infotainment, Auto Consumer / Value-Add, and Value Chain / New Business Models
4. New High-Value, Disruptive Technology Innovations
The winning teams from each category will share more than $300,000 of in-kind assistance and cash awards to accelerate their technologies to commercialization in the automotive and mobility industry. The in-kind prizes include public relations, IP, incubation, product development process, financial modeling and investor prep, B2B marketing strategy, and other business development support.
Through the competition, all GAMIC Finalists receive exposure to senior executives of OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with decision-making responsibility, budgets, and the need for the types of technologies the GAMIC Winners offer. Previous GAMIC winners and competitors have gone on to greater success, including inking licensing contracts, launching their products faster, and obtaining additional development funding due to their enhanced visibility.
