First and Only Crowd-Sourced Online Medical Journal Cureus Indexed in PubMed Central
San Francisco (PRWEB) July 28, 2015 -- The Cureus Journal of Medical Science, the world’s first and only crowd-sourced, open access online medical journal, announced today that it has been indexed in PubMed Central, the National Institute of Health hosted digital search engine for full-text biomedical literature.
Cureus is a peer-reviewed online medical journal striving to democratize scientific discovery by providing free and open access to data and encouraging users to rate article quality via a unique crowd-sourced, post-publication review system.
“We are extremely proud to further expand the body of scientific knowledge contained within PubMed and believe their inclusion of Cureus is a testament to the clinical value of our content,” said John Adler, M.D., founder and CEO of Cureus and professor of neurosurgery and radiation oncology at Stanford University.
Cureus is on a mission to change the long-standing paradigm of medical publishing. Submitting scientific data to traditional journals has often been considered a costly, complex and time-consuming process. Meanwhile, expensive data access subscription fees have limited access of medical research to very small segments of the global scientific community.
“With Cureus, financial and political obstacles have been removed from scientific publishing,” said Adler. “Relying on an online, community crowd-sourcing model, clinicians now have equal access to publish, read and review medical research - regardless of whether they’re part of a world-renowned academic institution or a rural community hospital in an emerging country. The result is better research, faster publication, and most importantly, greater access.”
Published articles are not graded via Impact Factor, but instead by Cureus’ unique crowd-sourced post-publication review system, Scholarly Impact Quotient. The Cureus system considers users’ expertise and relationship to the article when assigning weight to their article score. Peer reviewers, editors, colleagues and doctors and researchers in unrelated disciplines can all contribute to a published article’s score, helping the best science to stand apart from the crowd.
All peer-reviewed Cureus articles published in 2015 have been archived and indexed in PMC and PubMed for review by the global medical research community. Authors who publish in Cureus can expect their work to be indexed within one month of publication, resulting in a greatly increased number of article citations and views.
