First Annual Portland Facial Hair Fest Announces Details of the CanAm
Portland, Maine (PRWEB) February 17, 2014 -- Beards and moustaches wanted for the CanAm! This event is a traditional facial hair competition and one of the events at the first Portland Facial Hair Fest, a celebration of facial hair set to take place March 26-30 in various locations in Portland. The CanAm will take place Saturday, March 29 from noon to 5 p.m. at Ocean Gateway and will be a part of the Facial Hair Farmers Market going on at the same time. This event is produced in association with the Maine Facial Hair Club.
All those with facial hair are welcome to come down to Ocean Gateway and have their facial hair judged by a panel of esteemed judges. Participants will not be walking the runway—simply presenting their facial hair to an esteemed panel of judges. Winners will be announced later in the evening on the 29th at the Stache Pag (where all contestants will be walking the runway).
"We are calling it the CanAm because of the unity that facial hair creates between the U.S. and our brethren to the north," said Zeke Callanan, one of the organizers of the Portland Facial Hair Fest. "We look forward to an annual friendly competition where Canadians and Americans alike can enjoy our wonderful city."
There are seven official categories for the CanAm competition:
1. Full beard, natural (6 inches or more)
2. Full beard, natural (6 inches or less)
3. Full beard, styled moustache
4. Partial beard, natural
5. Full beard, freestyle
6. Full moustache, natural
7. Full moustache, freestyle
For definitions of the categories see below or visit http://thecanam.com/.
Participants can register in advance online at http://thecanam.com/register/ or they can also register the day of the event from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Judges of the CanAm include Steve Trask, president of the Maine Facial Hair Club, Justin Kelcourse, two-time competitor in the World Beard and Moustache Championship, and Chris Roberts, owner of High and Tight Men’s Hair Care in Portland, Maine. Two more judges will be announced prior to the competition.
The Facial Hair Fest features all sorts of delightfully hairy good times, including the 7th annual Stache Pag (a glorious moustache pageant), the Facial Hair Farmers’ Market, the Stash of the Titans, and the International Moustache Film Festival.
All CanAm registrants are also eligible to compete in the Stache Pag, at no extra charge. Registration also includes a t-shirt and a competitor gift bag.
Part of the proceeds from this event will go to Maine Ultimate, a local non-profit committed to growing the sport of Ultimate Frisbee in Maine.
Organizers have put together a video series explaining more about the Festival. Please click here to watch the Can/Am installment of “American Internet News" http://youtu.be/ZlYpUim4NJc.
