First Federal of Bucks County Helps Break Ground on Habitat for Humanity Home
Bristol, PA (PRWEB) April 20, 2015 -- Affordable housing in Bucks County is one home closer to reality, thanks to a Habitat for Humanity project in Bristol Township.
Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County broke ground recently on its 101st affordable home built in the county since its founding. The home is being built on State Road in Croydon on land donated by First Federal of Bucks County, which also is helping sponsor the project. The bank is joined by co-sponsors Bucks County Foundation, Bux-Mont Christian Church, The Dow Chemical Company, Lower Bucks Hospital, Parx Casino, Samuel Adams Pennsylvania Brewery and SYKES Enterprises, Inc.
The future homeowners joined representatives from those sponsors, local businesses, and Habitat for Humanity to grab shovels and break ground at the site on March 31, 2015 to symbolize the beginning of the project. Like all other Habitat projects, the Croydon home helps further the organization’s mission to build affordable homes, better lives, stronger families, and safer communities throughout Bucks County.
“Addressing homelessness and supporting the creation of healthy communities is a key mission for everyone at First Federal of Bucks County,” said President and CEO Jeane M. Coyle. “Helping working families buy their dream home was the reason First Federal came into being, and remains our primary mission today, more than a century later.”
Since its founding in 1885, First Federal of Bucks County has helped thousands of people buy homes in Bucks County through low-cost mortgages and other affordable home financing services. Supporting the work of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity fits in precisely with the bank’s mission.
“Every home we build along with the future homeowners strengthens the foundation of our mission, which is to make sure that everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home,” said Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Florence Kawoczka. “All of us at Habitat Bucks appreciate the generous support of our sponsors and community volunteers, without whom this important work could not continue.”
In May 2014, First Federal of Bucks County volunteers joined Habitat Bucks to build walls that eventually will frame the new home in Bristol. More volunteers will rejoin Habitat Bucks later this year to begin erecting that home on site.
Since its founding in 1990, Habitat Bucks has built 100 affordable homes in Bucks County. In 2011, the nonprofit launched A Brush with Kindness, providing exterior home repairs for low-income homeowners. Habitat relies on the generosity and commitment of its neighbors and partner families to provide these resources.
