First Public Access Compressed Natural Gas Station Opens in Polk County
MULBERRY, Fla. (PRWEB) April 15, 2015 -- A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the county’s first public access compressed natural gas (CNG) station on the eve of the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, Tuesday, April 21 at 9:30 a.m. The CNG station is derived from a partnership between Dillon Transport, Integral Energy, The Mosaic Company and Trillium CNG. Florida Public Utilities and Tampa Electric will provide natural gas and electric utility services respectively. The station is located at 1009 E. Canal St. (State Road 60). The 24/7 public access station has three fueling positions and is 100 percent automated.
“The new station in Mulberry provides many benefits and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the area. Jobs have been created through the construction and planning phases and will continue as we hire new truck drivers as well as people to maintain the property,” said Charles Musgrove, COO of Dillon Transport. “We now have 100 trucks in Central Florida and are eager to continue expanding our services.”

The new CNG station not only provides a cleaner and more efficient solution for our fleet partners, but also establishes the infrastructure that opens the door for smaller companies and government entities, such as the school system, to make the conversion,” said Frazier. “The steady increase of new stations opening demonstrates the growth of the switch from diesel to natural gas. CNG is the future of fuel power.”
For companies converting their fleets to natural gas, such as Dillon Trucking, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services offers a Natural Gas Fuel Fleet Vehicle Rebate to help with the costs associated with the conversion, purchase or lease for a minimum of five years. There are eligibility requirements and maximum rebates per vehicle, but each applicant may receive up to $250,000 per fiscal year. Dillon Trucking will also offset more than three million gallons of diesel fuel per year by electing CNG.
Compressed natural gas is a cleaner, alternative fuel to diesel and traditional oil-based gasoline. Produced domestically, CNG is more cost-effective when compared to petroleum alternatives. Natural gas is also a less harmful fuel alternative as it is nontoxic, noncorrosive, less combustible than most other fuels and has few associated health risks.
