Firstmark Credit Union Kicks Off Annual Summer Book Drive
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) June 07, 2016 -- Summer is right around the corner and for Firstmark Credit Union that means the start of the annual SAReads Summer Book Drive. For the sixth straight year, the credit union is partnering with SAReads in an effort to help improve literacy for the Bexar County community. Thousands of books will be distributed to schools and non-profit organizations throughout San Antonio.
"We are pleased to once again be a part of the SAReads Summer Book Drive and an ongoing partner in SAReads' efforts to help children in our community become strong readers," said Wendy Bryant-Beswick, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Firstmark Credit Union. ”As the teachers credit union, we place great value in finding unique ways to help meet the literacy needs of our community as well as the school districts we serve.”
From June 6 through August 19, donation bins will be stationed inside all 15 San Antonio Firstmark branch locations, all San Antonio Public Library branches, all San Antonio YMCA locations, and The Twig Book Shop. Donations of new or gently-used books for children and young adults are greatly appreciated.
“The 2015 SAReads Summer Book Drive collected more than 10,000 books, a number we hope to surpass this year. Give your gently-used books new life by gifting them to the SAReads Book Bank, which is located in office space generously donated by Firstmark Credit Union,” said Pamela Toman, Executive Director of Literacy San Antonio, Inc.
What began as a district project of United States Congressman Joaquin Castro when he was serving as a Texas State Representative, was expanded to become the city-wide SAReads Program. SAReads, a campaign of Literacy San Antonio, Inc., offers a number of programs and services focused on grade-level literacy for children.
