Fit to be Kids Expanding to Further Promote Healthy Living and to Help the Fight against Childhood Obesity
Lake Forest, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2014 -- Fit to be Kids (fit2bekids.com), a nonprofit organization specializing in fitness, nutrition, and life coping skills for low-income/at-risk and special needs children and their families, just announced that it is expanding to be able to accommodate more children and their families in their fitness programs. “We’ve experienced such support and success in the results of our fun fitness and afterschool programs that we are growing to fulfill the need,” said Shae Gawlak, founder, president, and CEO of Fit to be Kids.
Fit to be Kids offers:
- Fit ‘n Fun Club – a free year round, 120 minute Saturday program at local area parks providing fitness, nutrition, and goal setting.
- Earn-A-Bike (spring) – an eight week after school program that provides each child the opportunity to “earn” a bicycle of their own.
- Earn-A-Sport (fall) – an eight week after school program giving each child the opportunity to “earn” the opportunity to participate in a sport or activity with one of our community outreach partners.
- Summer Day Camp – a summer long camp with a sports clinic, water games, arts and crafts, as well as local field trips to the zoo, bowling, YMCA, and more.
For those children, in California and Colorado, who participate in our free two hour Saturday Fit ‘n Fun Club, they have the opportunity to participate in annual Fun Runs, 5k’s, and Walks and Trots events offered through the surrounding cities. The children can also attend fitness and nutrition field trips to experience martial arts, swimming, gymnastics, yoga, Zumba, soccer, cooking classes and tours of local organic farms and healthy grocery stores (Whole Foods, The Fresh Market, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts, Whole Choice, and others).
