Five Easy Tips to Make Healthy Eating Fun
Concord, NH (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- In Summer 2012, nine year olds Blake & Lucy set out to start their first business, Blake & Lucy’s Lunchbox, hoping to bring healthy meal alternatives to visitors of Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. As the fifth generation of locally based family company Blake’s All Natural Foods, the lunch stand is Blake and Lucy’s way to bring nutritious food to the people in their community. As the business grows and the girls start their second summer, they want to remind fellow youngsters that eating healthy foods can be fun. Some might fight it at first and ask for a candy bar vs. a fruit cup, but there are a few easy tips for kids to enjoy eating healthy, just as Blake and Lucy do.
Spice up the name as well as the dish:
Be creative when naming a meal with words like fresh, flaky, tender or warm. This will spice up the meal in the minds of others as well as your own. The more delicious the meal sounds, the easier it will be to get everyone to eat it. How you perceive a meal before the first bite is often the largest contributing factor to whether or not you enjoy it. Make it sound like the most delicious meal ever made.
Get creative with raw fruit and vegetables:
Kids love to eat food that looks like something they are familiar with, like dinosaur chicken nuggets and chocolate characters. Why not expand this to fruits and vegetables? Simply using toothpicks and a little creativity, a pile of carrots and grapes can become a favorite toy and snack. You can make people, cars, animals, or boats; the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
Make a trip to the grocery store into a scavenger hunt:
Not only will kids enjoy the grocery store scavenger hunt, it’s a learning experience as well. They can run from aisle to aisle and as kids search for food, they become familiar with the brands, and the store around them. If the kids helped pick it out, they may be more inclined to try it, too.
Get involved with the process:
Give kids something to be proud of by letting them help with meal preparations. Knowing what to eat isn’t the only concern when creating a healthy lifestyle; how to prepare a healthy meal is just as important. If kids know how to make a good healthy meal themselves, then they may not go straight to the potato chips and dip after school.
Don’t forget to prepare:
Half the reason so many people eat unhealthy is due to the convenience of pre-packaged food. Take ten minutes out of your day or night and prepare fruit, veggies or whole grain snacks into reusable cups. These are perfect for lunches or snacks on the go. They are stackable, easy to organize in the refrigerator, and can be personalized to the taste of each snacker.
