Five Star Painting and Habitat for Humanity of Utah County Restore Historic Utah Home for Family in Need
Provo, UT (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- A Provo family has a little something extra to be thankful for this year. Five Star Painting and Habitat for Humanity of Utah County recently teamed up to restore a historic landmark, the 139-year-old George Taylor Jr. House, located at 187 North 400 West in Provo.
Now—after over a year of renovations—the seven-member Blair family, including five children ranging from ages 3 to 13, is ready to move in. And at 1,800 square feet, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, the house will be a significant upgrade. Right now, the family lives in an 800-square-foot, 2-bedroom duplex.
On Thursday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m., Habitat for Humanity of Utah County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the efforts of the volunteers, donors, experts, and community leaders who made the restoration possible. Guest speakers will include Provo Mayor John R. Curtis, two historic preservationists, the project’s architects, a member of the George Taylor Jr. family, and a member of the Blair family.
Following the ceremony, an open house will be held until 8:00 p.m., allowing the public to see first-hand the work that went into the renovation. A second open house will be held on Friday 11/21 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The project came about when Five Star Painting celebrated its 10-year anniversary by participating in a National Day of Paint through its Five Star Cares initiative. According to CEO Scott Abbott, the project was a great success. “The Five Star Cares program is committed to finding ways to give back to our community. When the opportunity arose to become involved with Habitat for Humanity on this special project in Provo we were thrilled,” Abbott said. “Not only were we able to be a part of an important restoration that impacts the community, but we were able to work on something that has a personal touch, impacting a family in need.”
In addition to their work on the house, Five Star Painting is also planning on filling the Blair family’s pantry at 3:00 p.m. the day of the ceremony. They will continue to accept unopened, non-perishable food items until noon that day. Donations can be dropped off at Five Star Painting’s corporate headquarters located at 1570 N. Main Street in Spanish Fork.
