Five Triangle Nonprofits Benefit from Longtime Community Advocates
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- Five Triangle-based nonprofits have new projects underway thanks to The Jandy Ammons Foundation, Inc. The local family foundation is giving more than $87,000 to help the nonprofits fund projects that will collectively cultivate fresh produce, active lifestyles and wildlife habitats.
“We believe charitable organizations are a vital part of our local communities,” says Jan Ammons, The Jandy Ammons Foundation co-founder and president. Jan has spent years volunteering for the public school system, for parks and trails in her municipality and with church mission projects. She and her husband, Andy Ammons, have witnessed the power of inventive solutions that blend learning with the arts, the environment and the mission field. “We purposely seek out nonprofits who are planning unique projects that contribute to the health and wellness of their communities, demonstrate a strong volunteer base and simply need the capital to propel them forward.”
The 2014 grant recipients and their planned projects are:
• Miracle League of the Triangle will build a new Miracle League Field designed for children with special needs.
• Inter-Faith Food Shuttle will construct a new aquaponics system to help grow a healthy, hunger-free community.
• Raleigh City Farm will build a high tunnel to support produce growth at the urban farm.
• Agape Kure Beach Ministries will install observation platforms for the study of swamp habitats.
• North Carolina Native Plant Society will cultivate a native plant adopt-a-spot along Black Creek greenway.
This is the first round of grants given by the Jandy Ammons Foundation, which was launched in 2012 by Jan and Andy, who developed the Heritage community in Wake Forest and Rolesville, NC. The five grant recipients went through a through application and review process before being selected.
“Our hope with the Foundation is to enable willing organizations to serve their communities via natural habitats, education, the arts and church missions,” says Andy. “We are excited about the ideas and planning that these nonprofits bring to the table.”
“After years spent on the volunteer side, it’s an honor to participate in the passionate hard work that has gone into each of these projects,” says Jan.
“Each project will impact a different segment of the community the organizations serve,” says Gina Teague, the Foundation’s executive director, “Which we believe is one of the most effective ways to improve life for as many of our neighbors as possible.”
