Flood Law Group Announces Continuation of Investigation into GM Ignition Recall
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 21, 2014 -- Flood Law Group announced today that it is continuing its investigation into injury claims related to the GM ignition recall that impacted over 2.6 million vehicles worldwide. General Motors approved ignition switches that did not meet company specifications have already been linked to 13 deaths and Flood Law Group continues to update information regarding the situation on its website.
According to USA Today (Owners of recalled GM cars face long repair waits, 5/8/14), a deeper review as a result of the ignition switch recall has turned up 4 million more cars with significant problems . The largest recall recently announced by GM was as a result of a product defect in the ignition switches of many small cars. The defect caused the switches to slip from the “run” position to “accessory,” causing engine shutdowns as well as disabling power-assisted steering and air bags. According to an article published by Reuters (Delphi told panel GM approved ignition switches below specifications, 3/30/14), officials of Delphi Automotive told U.S. congressional investigators that GM knew about the problem since 2001 and may have concealed information when it first discovered it.
“General Motors has a legal obligation to protect the safety of consumers,” said Christopher Brown, Director of Communications for Flood Law Group. “We believe it should be held accountable for its failure to fix the ignition switch when it first became aware of the problem.”
Vehicles impacted by the recall include: All 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR, 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada), 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. On March 28, 2014, the recall was expanded to include: 2008 – 2010 Pontiac Solstice and G5; 2008-2010 Saturn Sky; 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt; 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR.
