Florida Bill SB 326 Proposes to Help Improve Residential Recovery Programs with Certification and Inspection Statewide
USA (PRWEB) March 25, 2015 -- According to the Palm Beach Post on March 11th, bill SB 326 is making its way through the senate. Its objective is to mandate safe sober living communities for recovering drug and alcohol addicts for the state of Florida. If the bill passes, certification will not be mandatory- however, recovery centers will not be able to refer clients to facilities who are not state certified. Bill SB 326, as drafted by Senator Clemens, states “A person suffering from addiction has a higher success rate of achieving long-lasting sobriety when given the opportunity to build a stronger foundation by living in a recovery residence after completing treatment. . . this state. . .[has] a legitimate state interest in protecting these persons, who represent a vulnerable consumer population in need of adequate housing.”
SB 326 is an attempt to keep the staff of sober living communities and halfway houses in continual training (including the directors) on the most effective means of addiction treatment. The bill mandates residential recovery centers to declare a code of ethics, and to submit to annual inspections. State certification would not exceed $100.

In anticipation of bill SB 326, a medical associate comments, “I can anticipate the potential of statewide sighs, for yet another certification gauntlet, but in the end I believe this is a critically important measure. State certification will demand a certain standard is mandated for sober living communities. Residential recovery is imperative for reacclimation, and prevents relapses from occurring. This bill ensures staff members, directors, and medical professionals will be responsible for continuing their training to provide the best in addiction treatment- and that is what our patients deserve. It’s important that those facilities who do not operate with the best intent or procedures for patients are duly rectified or shut down. Residential recovery is crucial for long-term temperance.”
