Florida Designer Drug Epidemic: Flakka Can Contain Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Heroin
Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 22, 2015 -- Flakka use is a raging problem in the South Florida area, and according to Police One, on March 15th, flakka is “more potent than bath salts and molly.” Flakka is a new designer drug. It’s main chemical ingredient is alpha-PVP, which induces those who abuse the addictive substance into a state of “excited delirium.” Those who admit to using the drug describe their experience as pure insanity. Victims of flakka abuse report hallucinating and succumbing to sudden violent outbursts. There is no set formulation for flakka, and according to Police One’s article, flakka has contained unstable combinations of “cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin.”
Flakka is a highly addictive substance and is becoming popular with the younger generations in South Florida, Texas, and Ohio. The FDA and DEA have not yet officially banned the substance. Flakka is presently on the DEA’s watch list.
Harbor Village Detox is an inpatient medical detox center in South Florida concerned about the instability of flakka combinations. A medical associate comments, “You never know what you’re going to get with this designer drug [flakka]. Dealers are putting so many other addictive substances in the composition of this drug, and it’s hurting people. The DEA is having a hard time officially banning the substance because of the constantly changing formulations. Abusers have no idea what they’re snorting, injecting, or taking when they choose to abuse flakka. It’s a dangerous game they’re playing. And the problem is, we’re not really seeing flakka users come in for treatment.”
