Florida DOT Selects Stanley Consultants to Study Proposed Transportation Improvement Projects
MIAMI / WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA (PRWEB) April 24, 2015 -- Stanley Consultants, a global consulting engineering firm with four offices in Florida, has been selected by the Florida Department of Transportation(FDOT) to perform Project Development and Environment (PD&E) studies to assess the social, cultural, natural, and physical environmental impacts associated with two proposed transportation projects in Districts 4 and 6.
The District 4 PD&E study will utilize the newest Interchange Access Request procedures that were recently approved by FDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to expedite project delivery and better serve the community. The District 6 PD&E Study is a new pilot study process aimed at reducing project delivery time, reducing preliminary engineering costs, and expediting project improvements to better serve the public.
“Reducing planning and PD&E study timeframes is a priority for me on every assignment. Now, to be working closely with FDOT as a partner to implement these statewide initiatives and emerging procedures is very exciting and rewarding,” said Bill Evans, PE, AICP, Manager of Stanley Consultants Transportation and Traffic Planning Department. Stanley Consultants has been conducting PD&E studies since 1980s when the PD&E Manual was first developed by FDOT.
The I-95 Interstate PD&E study to be performed for FDOT District 4 will analyze interchange improvements of the I-95 Northlake Boulevard Interchange in Palm Beach County. The interchange currently experiences congestion that results in traffic delays and spillback onto I-95. The proposed interchange improvement is anticipated to improve interchange operations, reduce congestion, and increase safety.
The District 6 PD&E study will analyze roadway alternatives at the intersection of SR 90/SW 8th Street and SR 973/SW 87th Avenue in Miami-Dade County. SR 90, locally known as Tamiami Trail, was constructed in the early 1900s to provide a vital link between Tampa and Miami. Over the years, economic and residential development increased in the project area increasing local traffic congestion.
The public involvement program will seek input from the community regarding any proposed intersection improvements which are anticipated to reduce motorist delay; reduce congestion; improve safety by reducing conflicts; enhance regional mobility and connectivity; improve freight mobility and access; and enhance emergency evacuation and response times. As part of the study process, extensive community outreach and meetings will be conducted to assist the public in understanding the project needs and to gain insight from the community members.
In 2014, the firm performed a PD&E Study for FDOT District 6 on State Road 847, completing it two months ahead of schedule.
