Florida Hospital Goes on the Offense with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Support Breast Cancer Research
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) October 06, 2017 -- Florida Hospital, the Exclusive Hospital of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be part of the 5th Annual Bucs Care Treasure Chests Finish at the 50: 5K-10K-Fun Run & Corporate Challenge, benefiting breast cancer research and patient services in Tampa Bay.
“We are excited once again to join with our partners at Florida Hospital to recognize survivors and support breast cancer research through the Treasure Chests Finish at the 50 Fun Run and Corporate Challenge,” said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “The Buccaneers’ partnership with Florida Hospital makes it possible to reach more people and have a larger health and wellness impact on the Tampa Bay area as we work to bring an end to breast cancer.”
This year’s race is Saturday, October 7th, and the former 5K Walk/Run race now includes the addition of a 10K event, with all racers ending at the 50-yard line in the Raymond James Stadium. The race is expected to draw nearly 4,000 participants this year and as part of the race entrance fee, all runners are invited back to watch the Bucs take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 29.

Additionally, the Florida Hospital West Florida Region Foundation is a direct beneficiary of the funds raised at this event and all funds will be directed to support breast cancer patient services in the Tampa Bay area.
The Honorary Race Starter will be Florida Hospital breast cancer patient, Karen Stanley, a Stage 3 breast cancer survivor who endured the infamous “Red Devil” chemotherapy, radiation, and a double mastectomy, only to have multiple failed reconstruction attempts.
Karen persevered and found Dr. Raj Ambay at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, who successfully performed reconstruction using the latest medical technique called DIEP Flap surgery, where DIEP stands for “deep inferior epigastric perforators,” specific blood vessels in the stomach that are transferred to the chest, along with the skin and fat attached to them, to reconstruct the breast.
After meeting Karen, Dr. Ambay said, “Karen’s courage and resiliency is inspiring. I knew we had to pull out all the stops to help her.”
In addition to her status as Honorary Race Starter, Florida Hospital will also host Karen at the Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Sunday, October 29th, where she’ll receive pre-game VIP access and Pirate Ship passes. Karen will also be a recognized breast cancer survivor on the field during the game.

A portion of each registration benefits local organizations that specialize in breast cancer research and patient services.
