Florida Hospital Tampa and All Children’s Specialty Physicians Expand Access to Pediatric Surgical Care
(PRWEB) March 11, 2015 -- Florida Hospital Tampa and All Children’s Specialty Physicians are partnering together to provide pediatric patients in the Tampa Bay community with full-time, around-the-clock access to pediatric surgical care at Florida Hospital Tampa. The goal of this vital collaboration is to ensure pediatric patients in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties receive the highest-level of pediatric-focused surgical expertise and standards of care closer to their homes.
“Today, we care for more than 15,000 children and babies each year in our Emergency Room, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and special care nursery,” says Brian Adams, President & CEO, Florida Hospital Tampa. “We know that number will continue to grow as a result of our population trends,” Adams adds.
Florida Hospital Tampa has had an existing affiliation agreement with All Children’s Specialty Physicians for more than 10 years to provide neonatal specialists to the Level III NICU and specialty nursery at Florida Hospital Tampa.
“Adding All Children’s Specialty Physicians’ pediatric surgeons is the next logical step so that we may continue to deliver on our commitment to the community and provide a greater level of care to even more pediatric patients, closer to where families live and work,” Adams concludes.
“This new relationship helps us share our expertise and bring a new dimension to pediatric care in the Tampa Bay area,” says Paul Danielson, M.D., Chief, Division of Pediatric Surgery at All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine. “Our affiliation with Florida Hospital Tampa will allow us to bring key services from our pediatric academic medical center closer to home for children right here in our community.”
Pediatric surgical coverage started earlier this month and is being staffed by the All Children’s Hospital Division of Pediatric General, Thoracic and Minimally Invasive Surgery group.
This group includes the following surgeons:
- Paul D. Danielson M.D., FACS, FAAP
- Paul M. Colombani M.D., FACS, FAAP
- Nicole M. Chandler M.D., FACS, FAAP
- Richard P. Harmel Jr. M.D., FACS, FAAP
- Beth E. Walford M.D., FACS, FAAP
- Drew A. Rideout M.D.
The model of care for pediatric surgery is based on All Children’s Specialty Physicians’ protocols, the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines and the American College of Surgeons guidelines.
