Florida Local Education Foundations Win Grants from the CenturyLink Foundation for Innovative Technology Projects
Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- CenturyLink, Inc. and the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF) recently announced 24 winners of the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation’s Teachers and Technology grant program. The program, conducted in partnership with the CFEF, launched in Florida last year and awards grants to schools in CenturyLink’s local service areas on behalf of teachers who have developed specific plans to innovatively implement technology in their classroom.
“We are very pleased to be a part of providing innovative technology in the classroom that enhances the learning experience for students in these schools,” said Dana Chase, CenturyLink East Regional President. “It is exciting to see educators implement creative teaching techniques that assist students in hands-on learning.”
The winners were selected by a review committee comprised of community members and a CenturyLink representative. Schools received CenturyLink grants through the CFEF and their local education foundation to be used by the teacher to purchase technology to benefit students in the classroom.
Twelve local education foundations were awarded 24 grants of up to $5,000 each for teacher professional development and/or the purchase of technology items to enhance digital learning and technology-driven classroom instruction. Projects range from the purchase of iPads and software to improve math and reading skills to the purchase of Smart Board Systems to help facilitate classroom instruction to summer externships for teachers for experience in using technology in the real-world and classroom adaptations.
